Metabolism is the single most important factor dictating our daily caloric needs, and it varies from person to person and from time to time. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends monitoring metabolism with gold standard indirect calorimetry, which requires accurate measurement of the O2 consumed by a person and the rates of CO2 produced in respiration. Breezing's patented device captures and processes O2 and CO2 concentrations in the breath, in combination with other lung measurements, to achieve an accurate metabolic rate reading.

Breezing Accuracy Validation

Based on clinical studies and laboratory testing, Breezing's accuracy is ~100% with 95% confidence intervals compared to gold standard reference methods. Findings from clinical studies are summarized below.

Patients treated with the Breezing device experienced 2x greater weight loss and 70% greater adherence to healthy behaviours, with significant improvements in type 2 diabetes risk factors including HbA1C, cholesterol and blood pressure. Clinical studies are summarized below.

Calculation of metabolism versus actual measurement

Although the calculations provide the average RMR for the population, a comparative study between the RMR calculated using the Mifflin St-Jeor (MSJE) predictive equation and the RMR measured using the Breezing indirect calorimetry method showed that the calculated values may underestimate and overestimating the true RMR at 950 and 660 kCal per day, respectively. The results of the studies are listed below:
